How your brand shows up in AI answers

More people search through AI assistants instead of a result list. That changes what makes content findable — and what you should measure.

When a user asks an AI assistant instead of searching, she gets an answer, not ten links. The question is no longer only where you rank, but whether you are mentioned at all — and how you are described when you are.

What the assistants actually reward

  • Clear, bounded answers to concrete questions, preferably close to the heading.
  • Proprietary data and examples that exist nowhere else.
  • A consistent description of what you do, across several pages and sources.
  • Structure that can be quoted: definitions, lists, short paragraphs.

To a large extent this is the same thing that makes content good for readers. The difference is that sloppiness is punished harder: a model that does not understand what you do will not invent something flattering — it will skip you.

Three things to measure

  1. Mentions: are you named on the questions that matter commercially?
  2. Description: is what is said about you accurate, and is the positioning recognisable?
  3. Source: which of your pages is cited — and is a page missing for the question?

Where to start

Start with ten questions a buyer actually asks before choosing a supplier. Ask them, save the answers and note who is mentioned. The gaps in that list are your content plan for the quarter — and they are worth more than yet another post about the future of the industry.
